 \nPreviously an engineer\, Joe Carter left the field to pursue his life lo
 ng dream of painting. He received his BFA from the University of Utah in 2
 000. Now his engineer background carries through to solving the problems o
 f naturalistic painting\, one step at a time. He works to record\, as fait
 hfully as possible\, relatively small objects that he collects for their q
 uality of being considered common\, mundane or worthless though they refle
 ct the very culture that considers them so. His approach to realism is ill
 usionistic\, with carefully blended colors giving a greater sense of 3D mo
 deling extending behind the picture plane. In all of his images\, Carter s
 eeks a sense that these objects are in their &ldquo\;own world&rdquo\;\, w
 here there is a kind of &ldquo\;daydream existence\,&rdquo\; a space where
  the painting takes on a more precious value than does the object. A caref
 ul caressing of old objects\, places and memories. There is a sense of the
