    Job Description: Spy Hop Productions is seeking a passionate, experienced, full-time Musical Arts Instructor to lead Spy Hop’s core musical arts program, and to develop Spy Hop Records in collaboration with other program staff. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with youth and in utilizing youth-produced media for creative expression, education, activism, and social change. The ideal candidate is likewise knowledgeable about local/global music industry and experienced in recording industry, critical pedagogies, experiential learning, and youth development best practices. Commitment to social justice, youth empowerment, and using media as an educational tool is essential. The Musical Arts Instructor is responsible for all related program operations. Qualifications: • Extensive experience in and knowledge of music theory, analysis, and composition and all styles, genres and traditions of modern music, including but not limited to indie rock, electronica, hip-hop, punk, etc. • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience using music technology and digital recording software, including Pro Tools, Garage Band, etc. • Experience in and knowledge of record production and distribution, including the independent record industry and use of online social networking and viral marketing • Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of, youth development • Experience working in multicultural environments and with diverse populations • Comfortable with and committed to supporting a democratic organizational culture (team-building, conflict management, humor, flexibility, energy and vision) • Excellent group facilitation skills, written and oral communications skills, and organizational skills • Demonstrated experience building community relationships with partners, parents and young people • Ability to create dynamic music theory, performance and composition curriculum around a prescribed set of organizational objectives • Experience in the classroom working directly with young people preferred DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Music and Young Artist Development Program Design and Instruction: • Assist Programs Director with development and design of Musical Arts core programs as needed. • Assist Programs Director with development of Spy Hop Records, and independent, youth-produced record label. • Write curriculum and syllabi aligned with organizational objectives. • Ensure successful completion of students’ projects by end of program, and that each participant leaves with relevant transitional materials (portfolios, resumes, letters of recommendation, etc.). • Integrate all core program evaluation into curriculum, and complete as required by organization. • Identify peer mentors for each program. • Seek and maintain meaningful community collaborations. Administrative: • Participate in weekly mentor and monthly staff meetings. • Assist in providing requested information for grants. • Assist with the training of assistant instructors as well as collecting the appropriate paperwork (tax forms, background checks, instructor guidelines package etc.) • Collect and turn in roll sheets, syllabi, curriculum, course roster with contact info (students and emergency info), release forms, instructor guidelines, etc. • Archive all critical programming collateral (success stories, class photos, and final products). • Track honorarium budget and report as needed. Outreach and Community Partnerships: • Provide support for and instruct community partnership programs in schools and local organizations • Assist Outreach Coordinator to assess community needs, design needed application materials, and recruit youth. • Work with Outreach Coordinator, other staff and students to coordinate local screenings and other distribution/PR-related activities surrounding youth-produced music.
