Guest conductor Arild Remmereit leads the Utah Symphony and cellist Natalie Clein in Elgar's Cello Concerto on an exciting program. The performance opens with Brahms' 'Third Symphony,' in which the first three notes act as the motto for the entire symphony and can be heard throughout the entire piece. Then Clein will join the orchestra to perform Elgar's 'Cello Concerto,' which was Elgar's last important work and represents his nostalgic mood at the time of composition. The piece features tones of angst, despair and mourning. The evening closes with Ginastera's 'Four Dances' from the ballet Estancia, which has one of the most frenzied and exhilarating conclusions in all of orchestral repertory.
