This 84-mile float through Desolation Canyon will offer experienced birders a rich display of desert fauna, including highlight species such as the Mexican Spotted Owl, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Peregrine Falcon, Prairie Falcon, Golden Eagle, Bald Eagle, Ferruginous Hawk, Northern Saw-whet Owl, Northern Pygmy-Owl, and many more. HawkWatch International (HWI) is partnering with Colorado River and Trail Expeditions to lead the river trip, while HWI's Conservation Science Director, Dr. Jeff Smith, and a fellow raptor expert will guide the birding experience along the way. Participants will be able to enjoy diverse bird habitats including Cottonwood riparian forests, Willow laden river banks, muddy sand bars, shear and broken cliffs, Pinyon, Juniper and Fir wooded canyon walls, grassy canyon floors, scree and talus slopes, reedy back-waters and sagebrush open lands. Event Location: Participants will meet in Salt Lake City, take a charter bus to Green River, UT, then fly over Desolation Canyon to the event's starting point. For more information, call HawkWatch International at 1-800-726-HAWK or visit www.hawkwatch.org.
