Art Access II Gallery is pleased to host Note to Self, an exhibition featuring the trompe l'oeil oil paintings of Salt Lake artist Shilo Jackson. Jackson's goal in painting is to copy as exactly as she can, the pieces that she is painting. She says, 'The result is trompe l'oeil painting (literally 'fool the eye' in French) that makes the viewer unsure if he or she is looking at a painting or a real object. From across the room, my paintings look like cork boards or walls filled with cards, papers and junk - something easily passed by. But upon closer inspection, the viewers are stunned to find that they are viewing paintings.' The artist continues, 'I love the trickery and responses I hear when it's discovered that a corkboard is indeed a painting. My work allows viewers to question what they are actually seeing. As in life, things are not always what they seem upon first inspection. It is important to take a closer look.' Additional Information: An Artists' Reception will be held on Friday, July 18, 2008 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
