Works hanging silently on a wall often lead visitors to ask themselves: what is the artist behind this canvas like? We are fortunate to be able to share the insights of three individuals who studied under Gaylen Hansen at Washington State University. On Gallery Stroll, the public is invited to join a conversation with artists Nancy Kiefer, Linda Okasaki, who is also a free lance-art consultant and researcher, Ric Collier, former director of the Salt Lake Art Center. The discussion will be monitored by Monika Del Bosque, director of the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery at Weber State University. Hansen's large, boldly covered canvases depict a fanciful world based on the rural settings of his youth in Utah and his current home in Southeastern Washington state. His paintings are humorous and dreamlike, populated by animals, insects, trout and his alter-ego, a cowboy named Kernal Bentleg.
