The Utah Arts Council is offering a free workshop titled, “Getting the Most Out of Booking Conferences: A ‘How-To’ Guide for Performers and Presenters,” led by Karen J. Hanan, Executive Director of Arts Northwest. Tailored for both performing artists and presenters in Utah, the workshop will provide background information on marketing, block-booking, audience expansion, community outreach, and more.

Hanan will be joined by Utah performers and presenters who will share their experiences in the field and provide feedback on attending booking conferences. Additionally, workshop participants are eligible to secure a short one-on-one session with Hanan following the workshop.

This workshop is presented in conjunction with Arts Northwest, the primary performing arts booking organization in the mid- and northwest United States. Arts Northwest will host its 28th annual booking conference Monday, October 13 through Thursday, October 16, 2008 in Eugene, Oregon. In partnership with the Utah Arts Council, Arts Northwest is offering a 20% promotional discount on conference registration to all Utah performers and performing arts venue employees. Additionally, Utah performers and presenters may also apply for one of ten, $1,000 subsidies offered by the Utah Arts Council to attend the Oregon conference. Applications must be completed and turned into the Utah Arts Council by Wednesday, August 27, 2008. All forms are available on the Utah Arts Council website at www.arts.utah.gov.

Please RSVP to Liz Smith at lizsmith@utah.gov or call 801.236.7544.
