Bountiful/Davis Art Center is now offering classes & workshops scheduled to begin September 19, continuing through November 7. Classes and workshops offer something for everyone, and encourage learning a new skill as well as developing existing talents. This fall’s offerings have a variety of children’s classes including painting, art journaling, monotypes, and a scout merit badge class focusing on sculpting that is open to anyone, not just scouts. Workshops include parent and child pottery and sculpting taught by Tara Robertson. This season we are happy to offer preschool classes and yoga for all ages. Adult classes include instruction in foundations of painting, landscape oil, watercolor, sculpture, and creating an art journal.
PRESCHOOL AND TODDLER CLASSES:
Mommy & Me Art Explore taught by Laurie Dyer
Fridays, September 25 – October 30, 10:00 – 10:30 Am
tuition: $45 + $8 material fee (6 weeks)
ages 18 months+
Art for the little ones. Toddlers, along with a grownup, can come and see what art is about! They will be encouraged to experiment with mark making, cutting, sculpting, and creative movement. They will not be working on projects, rather they will be exploring (safely) the wonderful possibilities of art. Price includes parent and child.
Laurie Daley has a BA in English from BYU. She has taught elementary art for four years and has spent many hours training in art at the district and state levels. Laurie has presented at the Utah Art Education Association’s state convention and currently teaches art at Bountiful Elementary.
Big Messy Art taught by Laurie Dyer

tuition: $50 + $8 material fee (6 weeks)
ages 3-5
This is a process driven class in which 3-5 year olds get to explore various art materials: paint, clay (ceramics), markers, and more. They will be exposed to a variety of art techniques.

YogaArts for Preschoolers taught by Connie Day
Tuesdays, September 22 – November 3, 10:30 – 11:00 AM [No class October 6]
Tuition: $45 + $5 Material Fee (6 weeks) or $10 drop in
Ages 3-5
Children’s Yoga is playful, fun, and challenging! It works to increase strength, focus, coordination, flexibility, and foster positive social interaction. We will incorporate creative movement and art as your little one moves through animals, jungle trips, and relaxation on a cloud. Children as young as 3 years old will benefit. Each child will end the series with a deck of yoga postures they can do at home! Space is limited.
Connie Day, 500 HR Registered Yoga Teacher, began her yogic journey in 2002 in SLC as a stress relief from her corporate job and active lifestyle. She noticed immediate benefits to the mind, body, and spirit. In 2006 she moved to NYC where she completed 500 HR (Yoga Alliance) training with Jean Koerner and Alan Finger in the ISHTA style (Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra, and Ayurveda). With gratitude to her teachers, she now shares the abundance of yoga through teaching classes to adults, children, special needs, and at risk youth. Her classes bring attention to breath, movement, and alignment; deepening the internal journey to freedom.
KIDS CLASSES/WORKSHOPS:
Handmade Library taught by Laurie Dyer

ages 6+
Kids will use various decorative techniques such as marbling, monoprinting, and painting to create book covers. Each student will make 4 small books with matching slipcase. These unique books can then be filled with photos, thoughts, or anything their imaginations can think up!

YogaArts for Ages 6-12 taught by Connie Day

Is your child inundated with a busy schedule full of school, activities, family, etc? Allow them unwind in this fun-filled yoga class designed to teach them how to reduce stress at a young age. They will learn techniques of breathing, yoga postures that are animals, and dabble in creative art to create their own yoga poses. They will take home a piece of art each week! Mastering Color taught by Sarah Bigelow
Thursdays, September 24– October 29, 5:00 - 5:45 Pm
tuition: $65 + $12 Material Fee (6 weeks)
ages 5+
Learn to bring an ordinary piece of paper to life by exploring different color media and the art of applying it to paper. This highly qualified artist will cover a variety of techniques with the use of tempera gouache, pastels and oil pastels, just to name a few. The instructor will refer to the style and color application of various master artists throughout the course. This class will open students’ eyes to the possibilities of color!
Sarah Bigelow recently graduated with a BFA in painting and drawing from Utah State University where she had the opportunity to attend a study abroad program in Germany. In her short career as an artist, she has exhibited her work extensively across Utah. Sarah has a gifted artist, most notably through her amazing ability to use color in her work.
The Book of Me, Part 2 taught by Laurie Dyer
Thursdays, September 24 – October 29, 4:00 – 5:00 pm
tuition: $65 + $12 material fee (6 weeks)
ages 9+
For centuries artists have created and compiled books of their own works and thoughts called art journals. This class will allow students to explore new techniques in various mediums such as inks, watercolors, pastels, pencils, paints and gesso as they learn more about art journaling and create a personalized book for themselves. More techniques will be explored in this class such as hand carved stamps, acetone transfers, stencils, and more.

Sculpture Merit Badge taught by Mike Call
Saturdays, 8:30 AM - 10:00 am
September 26 – November 7 [No class October 31]
Tuition: $50 + $15 Supply Fee (6 weeks)
AGES 11-18
Designed to meet merit badge requirements for Scouts aged 11 - 18. Students will sculpt a life sized portrait in clay, try plaster casting, and create a small animal figurine. Students will need to attend at least 4 out of the 6 classes in order to receive their merit badge.
Mike Call has a BFA in sculpture from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Art and has won many awards over the last 10 years including First Place Walter Hancock Prize from the National Sculpture Society. His work is well known and can be found in several permanent collections.
Parent & Child Pottery Workshop taught by Tara Robertson

Tuition: $30 + $5 Material Fee (1 day), $15 additional person
Ages 5+
Create functional ceramic plates and mugs with your child. Learn about forming clay, decoration, and firing. When glazed, pieces will be food safe and may be cleaned in the dishwasher. Tuition includes one adult and one child.

The Illuminated Journal taught by Michal Onyon
Tuesdays, September 22 – October 20, 7:00 - 9:00 pm [no class October 6]
tuition: $60 (4 weeks)
Create a private place for individual record keeping or thought gathering. Students will explore different techniques such as collage and sketching while learning how to document. Examples of all types of journals will be investigated: travel, record keeping, history, graphic, verbal, and illustrative, in order to tailor fit journal to the needs of the creator. Open to anyone who would like to add artistic flare to their journal.
Michal Onyon graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drawing and painting from the University of Utah. She has worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for several entities in Utah including Ballet West, The Utah Symphony, S.D.I., Red Rock Brewery, The Nature Conservancy, Salt Lake Acting Company and others. She has enjoyed working on projects like O.C. Tanner’s Christmas Windows.
Landscape Oil Painting taught by Diane Turner
Tuesdays, September 22 – October 20, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Tuition: $70 (5 weeks)
This class is designed for advanced artists who would like to hone their painting skills with this excellent teacher. Register early to ensure a space in this popular class. Please bring a reference to the first class from which to paint.
Diane Turner enjoys statewide recognition as an outstanding artist and teacher. Working with oil, she paints landscapes that have earned acclaim and many awards. Diane has studied with LeConte Stewart and Alvin Gittins at the University of Utah.
Gentle Flow Yoga taught by Connie Day

Open to beginners through advanced watercolorists, this five week course will focus on design as students acquire a stronger foundation and fine tune their painting skills.
Michal Onyon graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drawing and painting from the University of Utah. Foundations in Painting taught by Simon Winegar
Thursdays, 6:30 - 9:15 pm
September 24- November 5 [no class October 22]
Tuition: $95 (6 weeks)
Designed for the serious beginning to intermediate artist, this class will equip the artist with a solid foundation in form, value, color, edges and composition while focusing on understanding and discussing the laws and principles of representational art. Taught in the oil medium, students interested in oil or acrylic painting will benefit from this class. Most of this class will deal with landscape painting, but will also incorporate still life. The average class will involve a half-hour to forty-five minute lecture, demonstrations, and at least two hours of work time with ongoing critique. Students will be required to supply their own materials such as medium, paints, boards, brushes, etc. Some easels will be available for use. A supply list is available.
Simon Winegar was educated both formally and informally in art and has worked as a professional artist for the past 8 years. His work has been exhibited in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institute, the Springville Museum of Art as well as the Museum of International Masters of Contemporary Fine Arts. Simon's work has garnered appreciation through books and articles including Southwest Art, American Art Collector, and Artists Bluebook.
Sculpture taught by Mike Call
Saturdays, September 19 - Ongoing, 10:00 – 11:30 AM
Tuition: $100 (8 weeks) Supplies not included
Open to beginners through advanced students who would like to work with the instructor to develop a personalized program to meet individual needs. Beginning students who prefer to be guided will be working on 18” - 30” figures with an emphasis placed on anatomy, proportion, gesture, and drapery. Instructor will be available for consulting and critiquing for advanced students. Optional directions of study include: portraits, figures, anatomy studies, casting and mold making, and drapery. FREE EVENT! Family Encounters of the Art Kind held every third Monday, 7:00 – 8:30 pm
Come enjoy this FREE and fun way to learn about gallery etiquette and art with your family and friends. Visit the north gallery for a quick mini lecture, search the galleries with a fun “I Spy” then, in our classrooms downstairs, try an art project that you can make and take home.
