Ancient Chinese music performed by husband-and-wife duo Wang Jian-xin and Li Feng-yun on the historic instruments qin and xiao will be featured at Brigham Young University Friday, Sept. 18, in the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets from $6 to $11 are available through the Harris Fine Arts Center Ticket Office or at byuarts.com. This performance is part of the artsPASS and Performing Arts Series season ticket packages.

Wang and Li will be performing a number of works from different ancient dynasties including the Jin, Yang Shigu, Tang and Han Dynasties. They will also showcase some popular Chinese tunes and modern pieces.

Wang and Li are professors at Tianjin Conservatory of Music near Beijing. Wang plays several instruments, including the di, xiao, xun, sheng and hulusi. Over the past two decades, he has conducted master classes, performed solo recitals and played with contemporary music ensembles in Singapore, Malaysia, Russia, Japan, Poland, Hong Kong and the United States. He was honored at the International Jiangnan Sizhu Music Competition in Shanghai in 1987.

Li is an expert on the qin, China’s most ancient instrument. She earned a degree in pipa and qin performance and has won numerous awards in qin performance including the National Guangdong Music Competition, the International Jiangnan Sizhu Music Competition and the Hangzhou Qin Invitational. Since 1990, she has performed qin recitals in Beijing, Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Poland, Portugal, Ukraine, the United States and Russia.
