Celebrate Your Museum Day at the Springville Museum of Art

On Saturday, September 26, 2009, from 10-3, the Springville Museum of Art will participate in the fifth annual Museum Day, presented by Smithsonian magazine. Doors will be open free of charge to visitors at participating museums and cultural institutions nationwide.

Last year, upwards of 200,000 people attended Museum Day, with all 50 states plus Puerto Rico represented by over 900 participating museums, including 84 Smithsonian affiliate museums.

The Springville Museum of Art is pleased to participate in this nationwide celebration and has planned many exciting events for visitors of all ages. Artists featured in newly-opened exhibits will be present for the public to meet, along with Museum docents to answer questions.

In celebration of the opening of a new exhibition, The John H. Schaeffer Collection of Victorian and European Art, Victorian-themed activities will engage Museum visitors in art projects, live art demonstrations, storytelling and more.

From 1-3 visitors can also enjoy reception openings for Fall Exhibitions at the Museum. Hudson River Revival: Contemporary Landscape Painting, UVU Art Faculty Show, Open Secret: Undisclosed Works by Kent Wing and Alex Bigney, Pastels by Anne Weber, and Bridge Academy of Art: One-Year Concour.

Art from many periods will be on display in the Museum’s 29 exhibition galleries free of charge, including the Museum's collection of Utah art and Soviet Socialist Realism. The public is invited to attend this event.

The Springville Museum of Art is Utah's first museum for the visual fine arts. The public is welcome to visit Tuesday through Saturday, 10-5; Wednesday, 10-9; and Sunday, 3-6. It is Located at 126 E. 400 South in Springville. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 801-489-2727 or visit www.smofa.org.
