Heritage Theatre invites local audiences to a new Christmas-themed production premiering in December. Entitled "A Christmas Pudding", the script was created, compiled, and adapted by David Briney. He describes it as, "an evening of song, mirth, and music designed to bring out the best in all of us."

Briney developed the idea from several Christmas Evening programs he had attended while traveling throughout the country, including Park City, Utah. For more than twelve years Briney flew into Utah to ski, met with friends, and then attended a Midnight Mass at the local Catholic Church. He saw how people were moved emotionally by the evening and sought ways to capture those feelings for a broader based theatrical audience.

The production was first staged in Los Angeles, California many years ago and has developed quite a following. "Pudding" has been performed in theatres, churches, cathedrals, schools, and even some small, intimate gatherings.

According to the production's director, Mac Edwards, "We are very excited to be able to introduce our audiences to this delightful collection of stories, poems, and songs that gets everyone, young and old alike, into the spirit of the holiday season."

The show derives its title from the traditional Christmas pudding served in England. Briney even includes the presentation of a Christmas pudding by Mrs. Bob Cratchit to Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge during one of the selected scenes. "It's not the ingredients that make the Christmas pudding special," commented Edwards, "it's the love and care put into the dessert."

Hence, the production takes "a little bit of this and a lot of that" to blend into a fun, heart-warming, and memorable evening at the theatre. The actors even share the history behind many of the carols, which adds to the significance of the lyrics and the melodies.

Most people are familiar with many of the stories, including "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus," O. Henry's "The Gifts of the Magi," and Charles Dickens' timeless classic, "A Christmas Carol." The Christmas production will bring to life these and many more heart-stirring tales of Christmas past. A small acting ensemble of seven will assume various roles to tell their tales.

Another group of singers will help the audience remember such carols as "Away in a Manger," "Silent Night," and "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel." Audience members will even be encouraged to sing-along to these familiar songs.

Cast members include Carolyn Able, Greg Christensen, Alexis Morgan, Emily Thornock, and Joshua Wilding, all from Brigham City; Nancy Baker of Willard, and Rand Breim of Ogden. Tammy Hirschi of Perry is providing piano accompaniment.

"A Christmas Pudding", will run Monday, Friday and Saturday nights from December 4 - 19, 2009. The evening performances start at 7:30 pm and the two Saturday matinees, on December 12th and 19th, start at 2:00 pm. The box office opens at the theatre 45 minutes before curtain time, but everyone should arrive early to get a good seat.

The Heritage Theatre is located at 2505 So. Hwy 89 in Perry, UT. For reservations please call (435) 723-8392 during box office hours, which are Monday, Wednesday - Saturday 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

"A Christmas Pudding" is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. It is co-Sponsored in part by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Utah Arts Council
