Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN has long been a provocative and versatile framework with which to interpret our relationship with science and technology.

All you have to do is utter the word “Frankenstein” and you conjure up the image of an obsessed scientist violating bodies, experimenting with unorthodox techniques, employing bizarre technologies, and riding roughshod over human dignity and personal relationships. This presentation will examine the legacy of the novel as one of the most important scripts in our culture’s ongoing conversation around the hoped for benefits but unforeseen threats of biological technology. Just because we can, should we?

Join presenter Therese Jones, PhD Associate Professor, Division of Medical Ethics and Humanities, University of Utah School of Medicine and RADIO HOUR: FRANKENSTEIN playwright Matthew Ivan Bennett.
