The Phoenix Theatre is proud to present the most popular musical of all time, The Sound of Music with Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Based on the book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, the story is set in the beautiful Austrian landscape of the 1930s. Young Maria Rainer (Taylor Hanson) is failing miserably in her attempt to become a nun. The Mother Abbess (Joy Newbold) is left no choice but to send her away to govern over seven unruly children. Their father, Captain Georg vonTrapp (Brent Sloan), runs his household with military precision, but Maria wants nothing to do with this and soon discovers that all these children need is love and understanding to change their behavior. She teaches the children to sing and through her efforts, music is brought back into the silent halls of the von Trapp estate.
