'He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind…' Proverbs 11:29 Inherit the Wind dramatizes the 1925 Scopes 'monkey trial' in which a Tennessee science teacher, John Scopes, was tried and convicted for teaching Darwin's theory of evolution, violating a Tennessee law that forbade teaching any theory that conflicted with the Biblical conception of Divine Creation. Hailed as one of the great American plays of the 20th Century, its themes of religious belief, religious tolerance, freedom of thought and our current society's debate over 'creationist' vs. 'evolutionist' resonates today.
