The Empress Theatre is pleased to announce the second annual One Act. The single acts chosen were selected from student written work from the One Act Play Competition at The Utah Theatre Association's annual conference held this year at Weber State University. The plays include: Sky Blue-Pink w/ Purple Polka Dots: Written by Amanda Maire Massengale from Lehi High School and directed by Cory Larsen. A young girl has a birthday that she will not forget. She is given the controlling interest in one of her father's restaurants and then her father has a heart attack. This play tells the story of this girl's life for a few short days after her birthday and all the grown up decisions that she and others must make. Beat! : Written by Lorenzo Bindrup from Weber High School and directed by Cory Larsen. Picture a blank stage and a story that is being written as the audience watches. This comedic story has many different changes as everyone wants to write their own story. Everything from burning houses to pirates to death? Yellow (verb): Written by Nicole Roylance from Riverton High School and directed by Penny Peshell. Is yellow really a verb? Jeni, a blind young girl appears to be having a problem understanding her English concepts. Her father is trying to help Jeni, understand this complex English language, but he learns more than he taught. Thinking Out Loud: Written by Theresa Serrian from Olympus High School and directed by Jake Harenberg. This comedic story is about a young man that meets a blind date in a restaurant. You get to listen to each of their thoughts as they learn more about each other. Will there be a second date?
