The 48th season of the Utah Shakespearean Festival will be packed with love, romance, jealously, intrigue, and all things Shakespearean. During the summer season, audiences in the open-air Adams Shakespearean Theatre will have the opportunity to see three popular plays by William Shakespeare: As You Like It, A Comedy of Errors, and Henry V. In the beautiful indoor Randall L. Jones Theatre, the Festival will stage three additional productions: Noel Coward's hilarious comedy Private Lives, Susan Cooper and Hume Cronyn's touching drama Foxfire, and the popular family musical The Secret Garden with music by Lucy Simon, and book and lyrics by Marsha Norman. The summer season is followed by the 2009 fall season, which is presented from September 18 through October 17. Audiences will find more passion and excitement with the comedy The Complete works of William Shakespeare (abridged), Stephen Mallatratt's nail-biting ghost story The Woman in Black, and the inspiring drama Tuesday's with Morrie.

      I have been to the Utah Shakespearean Festival every year since 2003. I always enjoy my stay in Cedar City and always enjoy the new performaces of the Festival each year. A Thursday to Sunday stay... Expand

      I have been to the Utah Shakespearean Festival every year since 2003. I always enjoy my stay in Cedar City and always enjoy the new performaces of the Festival each year. A Thursday to Sunday stay with seeing every performace is the perfect mini summer weekend vacation. Go Play! Collapse

      The Utah Shakespeare Festival’s performance of Othello is the finest rendition I have ever seen. Jonathan Earl Peck, as Othello, flawlessly carries the wide range of emotions this character... Expand

      The Utah Shakespeare Festival’s performance of Othello is the finest rendition I have ever seen. Jonathan Earl Peck, as Othello, flawlessly carries the wide range of emotions this character requires. His presence dominates the stage in every scene he is in. But, it is James Newcomb as the conniving Iago that truly transports one into the experience of the play. Newcomb is simply brilliant. From his first words, he engages the audience and draws them into the action of the play. The audience becomes an extra character. And despite the fact that Iago is a nasty, vengeful person, Newcomb is able to perform the character without the audience being forced to hate him. This is an amazing balance that could not be achieved by a lesser performer. Do not let my praise for James Newcomb reduce one’s attention for all the other players. As always, an excellent Shakespearean performance requires talent in all of the characters. This performance does not disappoint. Collapse
