Felipe Ortega, recognized as a master potter in the Jicarilla Apache tradition by the Smithsonian Institution, is known for his mastery of micaceous clay ceramics and charismatic teaching style. From La Madera, N.M., Ortega traces his ancestry through Jicarilla Apache and Hispanic settlers to northern New Mexico. Ortega has been honored as one of eight master potters by the School of American Research. His work is featured in a permanent exhibit in Santa Fe. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch and watch as Ortega displays his talent in traditional pottery techniques in Westminster College's Eccles Ceramic Center.
