This unique Holiday event is a soulful celebration with Handel's traditional arrangements infused with the spirit of Gospel. 'This is our seventh year presenting the event', indicated producer Richard Scott, 'and in recent years the music has evolved into a more non-traditional sound with a more jazz/gospel/pop sound but still rooted in the Baroque tradition. It truly has become a unique sound and wonderful holiday event. This year is bittersweet because it could be the last year that guest conductor B. Murphy will be with SLCC; he is moving out of state but hopefully will be back in the future as a guest artist. Lyle Archibald is not with us this year because he is on 'leave' but chorale instructors, Thomas Bagley, Kristy Arnold and Ryan Hobbs have the student choirs in great shape and Kevin Mathie has written some wonderful new arrangements. We are very excited!' As always the event features the SLCC Concert Choir, local soloists including Ginger Bess Simons, Kelly Griffiths, and Todd Miller; and a community Gospel Choir. Narrators will include SLCC President Cynthia Bioteau, Pastor France Davis, Cristina Flores, Rita Martin, and Shauna Graves Robertson. Choirs will be conducted by B. Murphy and Grand Theatre Resident Musical Director, Kevin Mathie.
