    Continuing in its recent focus of exhibits of local interest, Horne Fine Art is pleased to present Remembering Sugarhouse - Paintings by Ken Baxter. Revisit some of the neighborhood's notable landmarks and businesses before they fell to redevelopment. Celebrate the Sugarhouse that was. The show features a series of 'plein-air' paintings that noted artist Ken Baxter carried out from the sidewalks of Sugarhouse. He also takes us farther back in time with historical reconstructions from period photographs. Included are popular storefronts that have not yet fallen to the force of modernization, such as the dappled scene 'Fats Grille and the Old Tap Room'. The paintings have a frank, documentary look, and include views of key businesses such as Granite Furniture, Sugarhouse Coffee, the Blue Boutique, and Central Book Exchange. Over the years, Ken Baxter has earned a distinguished reputation for his historical scenes. He has painted numerous area landmarks, including Saltaire, Hotel Utah, Auerbach's, the Villa Theatre, ZCMI circa 1900, and the Union Pacific Depot. Ken Baxter captures Sugarhouse with a skill and affection that reveal his longstanding fascination with local architecture.
