The Salt Lake Symphonic Choir, in collaboration with the 23rd Army Band, will present a concert to recognize and acknowledge the heroism and valor of those who participated in the historic World War II battle known as D-Day. This important and courageous effort by the American Armed Forces and their allies proved to be the turning point in the eventual liberation of Europe from the German occupation. In addition to honoring the surviving veterans of World War II, a segment of the performance will be dedicated to the men and women who are currently active in the Armed Forces of this nation. Under the direction of Dr. Michael D. Huff, the Symphonic Choir will perform John Rutter's 'Requiem', accompanied by a string-ensemble. The second half of the program will feature Randall Thompson's 'Testament of Freedom', a musical setting of four passages from the writings of Thomas Jefferson. The Choir will be joined by the 23rd Army band for this stirring work. The program will also include a variety of additional patriotic songs performed by the Choir and the Army Band, under the direction of Chief Warrant Officer Micael Cottom.
