Westminster College's Environmental Studies program in partnership with Wasatch Journal magazine present the Wasatch Journal Forum, 'Mountain Lions Among Us.' It's rare to see a mountain lion these days, as prominent writer/photographer Stephen Trimble knows all too well; he dreamed of seeing one in person for years before joining biologists to track them while on assignment for Wasatch Journal magazine. As Trimble discovered, these magnificent and elusive creatures live silently among us, often crossing the Wasatch Front. Mountain lions made national news last month when a cougar attacked a 10-year-old boy in Arizona. But such encounters are rare, and the true story of how people and cougars interact is more complex than most news stories tell us. Find out more about these mysterious creatures-and how scientists, conservationists, and even developers are working to preserve a balance between humans and predators-during this panel/forum discussion. The event is free and open to the public. The forum, moderated by KCPW public radio host Lara Jones, will answer questions about the lions among us: Where do they live? What do they eat? What is being done to protect them-and to smooth relations with their human counterparts living in the Intermountain West?
