As part of the 2007-08 Excellence in the Community Concert Series, Westminster College is pleased to present a concert by the Corey Christiansen Quartet. World-class jazz guitarist, Corey Christiansen, leads an all-star line up of Salt Lake City's best jazz musicians through a program of wide ranging grooves and styles. Widely heralded as a gifted young player with a passionate sound, Christiansen took up the instrument at the age of five under the direction of his father, Mike Christiansen, Chairman of Guitar Studies at Utah State University. Christiansen earned a bachelor's degree in music from Utah State and a master's degree in jazz performance from the University of South Florida. Christiansen has played the Syracuse Jazz Festival, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the Festival of the Midnight Sun (Helsinki, Finland), the Umbria Jazz Festival (Perugia, Italy), to name a few. He has played or recorded with an impressive roster of artists, including John Pisano, Andy Summers, Willie Akins, Chuck Red, Rob McConnel, Sid Jacobs, Jack Wilkins, Bruce Saunders, Randy Johnston, Phil DeGreg and Steve Davis. The quartet includes: Corey Christiansen, guitar; David Halliday: saxophone; Jay Lawrence, drums; and Matt Larson, bass. Tickets are $12 for the general public and $10 for the Westminster community. Tickets are available at Hires Big H, Holladay Pharmacy and at the door.
