RDT alumnus Bill Evans will return to Salt Lake City this summer to perform an evening of solo rhythm tap works in a program titled An Intimate Evening of Tap Dancing with Bill Evans. The 90-minute tap dance concert will take place in the Leona Wagner Black Box Theatre at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. Evans will be joined by Salt Lake City tap artist Deborah Robertson. The concert will include a suite of classic rhythm tap dances performed to classic jazz music as a tribute to several of the great African American artists who created and refined the art form, including Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, Charles 'Honi' Coles, James 'Buster' Brown and Eddie Brown. Other works include Evans' choreography to George Gershwin's Preludes and Horace Silver's Song for My Father, as well as his signature a cappella pieces Blues for My Father and Yes Indeed! The concert will close with Evans' interpretation of Excursions, choreographed to the music of Samuel Barber by Fred Strickler, co-founder of the illustrious Jazz Tap Ensemble.
