Alwin Nikolais The Crystal and the Sphere involves an array of strange and humorous characters woven into a colorful Space Fantasy against vibrant light projections and magical black light images. With such delightful titles as 'Waddle Birds,' 'Outer Space Clown,' and 'Chess Skaters,' this performance will fire the imaginations of all ages! Originally commissioned by the Kennedy Center for its Imagination Celebration, this dance was praised by Anna Kisselgoff of The New York Times noting, 'The work was intended for children, but the playful abstractions that make up the Nikolais' signature might, in this case, appeal even more to adults'. Don't miss out on this phantasmagorical show-stopper! Nikolais always said, 'When audiences come to the theatre they come to see theatrical magic, not dramatic or political problems, but magic. And in this show, he does just that. Helpful Information: Group Rates Available: Groups of 6 or more for $20 and Families of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) for only $45!

I absolutely loved this show last season, and I look forward to seeing it again this weekend! It's a great one to take the kids to as well! They love it!

This year's version of Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company's "The Crystal and the Sphere," is even better than last year's. The Company has added two additional dances through the auspices of the Nikolais/Louis Foundation for Dance (Artistic Dir., Tito del Saz). This black light show is a great way to introduce kids to abstract dance theater while "wowing" them at the same time. Both dailies last year loved it, as did over 9000 school kids and their teachers who saw it for free. Come to the show this year to help support these free matinees again scheduled for 2009. I brought two friends last year and they're coming again this year. And the price is right: $45 for a family of five. Collapse

Last year's reconstruction of Alwin Nikolais's "The Crystal and the Sphere" was so popular it's coming back this year by Ririe-Woodbury. If you missed it last year, don't miss it this year.
