Represented in this exhibit are works spanning eight decades of insightful, intelligent and joyous creation. Waldo Midgley's long and productive career began in his native Utah during the early years of the twentieth century. In 1907 he left Utah for New York City where his work would be profoundly influenced by the emerging Ashcan school under the direction of Robert Henri. Henri's philosophy of immersing oneself in the city and painting the raw material of urban America would remain a pervasive force throughout Midgley's prolific life. Under Waldo Midgley's creative genius the subject matter of the Ashcan group, the city with its teaming inhabitants and ever climbing skyscrapers, its moments of work and play, are rendered in an exuberant and joyous manner. This unique style shows not only the energy and spontaneity of urban America but is also expressive of Waldo Midgley's kind and generous nature and his love of life. Midgley also turned his creative talents to urban and rural scenes throughout the North Eastern and Western United States, Canada and Europe. It is truly an honor to present this historically important and inspiring artist in this exhibition. Opening Reception: An artists reception and gallery stroll will be held on Friday, August 15 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
