    Universe City, presents photography of Rosamond Socwell and poetry of Clarence Socwell, opening in conjunction with Ogden's First Friday Art Stroll on Friday, August 1, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and continuing Saturdays and Fridays, or by appointment. The Socwells have been married for 55 years and are still making art together. The exhibit will feature many photo/poetry pairs framed together. There will also be individual photographs as well as paintings by Clarence. Rosamond J. Socwell accomplished photographer of North Ogden, Utah, is a native Ogdenite and graduate of Ogden High School where she was a staff photographer for Tiger Highlights and Classicum. She has received numerous awards for her photos from Ogden Color Camera Club and has exhibited at Eccles Community Art Center, David Eccles Egyptian Convention Center, and Weber County Library. She has sold several of her photos, including one for the cover of Looking Both Ways, a book of poetry by Helen Mar Cook, and one for Awaiting Your Discovery. . . Ogden. Her photo of White Sands was featured as the cover art for Encore, Prize Poems of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. Her photo, 'Rain Dancer' was awarded one of nine cash prizes in the 1993 University Women's juried art show which included all two dimensional art media, and was chosen by Utah Arts Council as part of the traveling exhibit that spent a year in transit to all parts of Utah. She has also received a cash prize for 'Umpqua Lighthouse' from Reedsport Lower Umpqua Chamber of Commerce, Reedsport, Oregon. Many of her prints have been exhibited and have received awards from regional, state, and national branches of Federated Women's Clubs of America, and from International Pen Women. She was an official photographer for the 1995 Weber County Fair. Clarence P. Socwell, also a native Ogdenite and graduate from the Weber State University and University of Utah, with a major in art. He is Rosamond's husband of 55 years, a free-lance writer of prose as well as a poet who has won over 1000 prizes in national contests including second in the prestigious 1995 grand prize contest of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies and the grand prize in the 1995 Iliad Literary Awards. He was named Utah State. Poet of the Year in 1977 for his book Intrinsic Tapestries. Author of Beads Along A String and published in numerous anthologies, he is a past president of League of Utah Writers, Utah State Poetry Society, and the National Federation of State Poetry Societies.

        About the artist:
        Fernando Espindola has been playing Andean music since his early teenage years in Bolivia. As a native of Oruro, the city famous for having the most elaborate carnival in Bolivia, he was exposed to a concentration of folklore that would be difficult to equal anywhere else.
