This festival originated in 1997 and continues to grow every year. The theme for the festival is 'The Pioneering Spirit'. Hosted by the Fillmore Civic Arts Council at the Territorial Statehouse Park in Fillmore, the two day event features Fine Arts and Crafts Booths, Pioneer Demonstrations, Live Entertainment and is free to the public. This year a Juried Art Show will bring Millard Co. Artists together from all over the state. Rules can be found here. All of the artwork and crafts are 'juried' to ensure exceptional quality with a balanced representation of Painting, Ceramics, Jewelry, Photography and Sculpture. Many of the artists demonstrate their skills of pottery making, weaving demonstrations, bow making, broom making, candle dipping, painting, sculpture, and blacksmithing for those browsing through the booths. The high point of each day is when artists gather for the Quick Draw event, where they create a finished product in 30 minutes as the audience wanders freely to observe the artists at work. Most popular last year was the making of three lovely pots. Following the event, an auction is held in which those present can bid to buy the pieces of art they just observed being created. This year's festival will include Mountain Men teepees with demonstrations of archery and bow making. Blacksmiths will demonstrate old fashioned techniques for anyone interested. There will also be Civil War demonstrations, Pioneer cabins with wool carding, spinning and weaving. The Stage is continuously filled with live entertainment such as Cowboy Poetry, Great Country and Western Vocalists, Old Time Fiddlers, A Quick Draw Art Exhibition and local talent. For the children, arts and crafts activities are available all day for their entertainment. They can experience pioneer games, help weave a rug, card wool, dip candles, make art projects, hear stories, sing songs and make a pot of their own. Also available are pony cart rides that are sure to please.
