As a child in Utah, Marilyn Moore learned to embroider, knit, crochet and sew. Her love of fiber work continued into adulthood as she added spinning, weaving and basketry to her vocabulary. This broad variety of fiber techniques has allowed Moore to enrich her exploration of the physical and metaphorical properties of vessels. In her artist statement, Moore says 'Using color to express an idea or even just a mood is a means of expression that evolves like the slow processes I use. While very time consuming, this allows time for contemplation and investigation into the basket form and ideas that I wish to reveal as the work grows into it's finished form. An ancient art form, used in many cultures for ceremonial purposes as well as for functional household uses, it remains a way of linking myself to the continuum of basket artists past and present.' Moore will present her art talk in conjunction with the exhibit Interweave: Innovations in Contemporary Basketry.
