Add Review/CommentThis year's WorldStage! Concert Series presents a vibrant and exciting cross section of entertainment deeply rooted in Utah's cultural communities, with performances by: June 30 - WestFest 2009, WalMart and the Utah Cultural Celebration Center are proud to host the Utah Symphony once again on the amphitheater stage. The annual concert is always a great way to kick off the summer season. This year the symphony will perform patriotic songs from American history, along with some additional crowd-pleasing favorites. July 6 - The Utah Cultural Celebration Center's WorldStage! Concert Series continues with an informative and exciting history and overview of Jazz music. Join Lloyd 'Doc' Miller and special guest artists as they take you on a tour of the history of jazz from the 1900s to 1960. The audience will be guided through the history of the American art form, jazz, beginning with the turn-of-the-century New Orleans jazz characterized by the great Bunk Johnson's band, then moving on to the Roaring Twenties with replications of pieces by Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton. The second half of the concert will feature bebop from the 1940s and cool jazz from the 1950s ending with a couple of rollicking blues and jive numbers. This will be fun family music and no earplugs will be necessary. July 13 - While it may be unusual for a band to stay together for more than a year or two, Zion Tribe's uniqueness is not limited to longevity; they can lay claim as one of Salt Lake City's only 'world beat' bands. A hybrid of musical influences from around the globe comprises the World Beat genre. Zion Tribe passionately plays reggae, Latin, Afro-Caribbean, rock, funk and rhythm & blues in a way that always pulls the audience into their groove. Original dance tunes from their numerous albums keep them on the floor and ready for more. A live performance by the Tribe is always dynamic, energetic, and tight, with plenty of drums, rhythms, singing and dancing! July 20 - Red Rock Rondo, a well crafted synergy of folk and classical styles. July 27 - Smiling Souls has diverse musical influences such as Jazz, Reggae, Hip Hop, Dancehall and old school Funk, mixing all of these to create their own unique sound. Live brass, experienced musicians, and smooth vocals create the sound that is Smiling Souls and gives you music from around the world. With their first album to be released soon, they are hitting the Salt Lake City club scene to treat music lovers to a true mix of musical culture that is sure to rock the spot. Aug 3 - Jason Hewlett - The Entertainer is a one-man show unlike any you've seen before. He has thrilled audiences from coast to coast with his music, comedy, dancing, and singing impressions. He is regularly in Las Vegas entertaining at venues such as The Venetian, Mandalay Bay, The Four Seasons, The Monte Carlo, The Rio, and many others.
