    Raised by musical parents who transplanted their family to Provo, Utah from Southern California, Payne became an accomplished actor and children's performer. In 1997, the 'Sam Payne Trio' was formed and their popularity immediately spread. In 1999, Payne formed another group called the 'Utah Jazz Quintet' that became known for their polished and innovative interpretations of jazz standards. Today, Payne has returned to his roots and the performance of his original music. With his arresting stage presence, his craft as a poet and his soaring tenor voice audiences have come to know him as an engaging performer and entertainer.
