Horne Fine Art is pleased to present More Fresh Paint, celebrating the latest creations of the gallery's artists, hot off the easel. Beloved for her garden scenes, Phyllis Horne presents fresh compositions blooming with hollyhocks and roses. In Under the Bamboo Canopy, she captures the dappled play of light and shadow on a stand of hollyhocks. The series ranges from small and exquisite in scale to broad and dramatic. Karen Horne presents her own coloristic approach to the garden - as is seen in the dramatic pastel 'Roses and Adobe' setting the pink of roses against the warmth of a terracotta wall. Moving out farther into the landscape, Phyllis Horne presents a series of alpine and backroad scenes. Several were inspired by her visit to the Tetons. In A Chill in the Air, she suggests the first notes of autumn's cool, with mists rising off a crystalline lake framed by the distant blue of mountains. In Autumn Mosaic she uses a more modernist approach, depicting a grove of aspens as a tapestry of oranges and ochres. Closer to home, Karen Horne continues her exploration of SLC landmarks, with new additions to her series celebrating the Utah Arts Festival. In Evening at the Arts Festival, she contrasts the neon colors of the booths against the inky silhouettes of the moving crowd. Horne presents a breezier mood in Late Afternoon at the Arts Festival with a festive chaos of visitors, banners, and booths. Horne's skill at capturing gesture with a few notes of color serves her well here.
