Brooks Yates's artistic interests started at a young age while watching his uncle paint and developed with private instruction. During Yates's time at the University of Utah, he was introduced to Utah artist Seth Winegar and has been painting with Winegar for several years now. For a while, Yates stopped painting to concentrate on finishing his MBA at the University of Utah. He currently works in business and his work takes him all over the world. Throughout his time at business school and now as his ventures unfold, Yates continues to paint, and he aspires to eventually paint and create full time. Yates says, 'I have always been interested in blessing the lives of all those around me with my art work.' Sharon Jackman seeks to unite the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual aspects of life in her work. Throwing porcelain on the wheel demands strength, concentration and coordination and she utilizes yoga breathing principles to produce the delicate yet strong pressure needed to pull the clay. Jackman says, 'The natural world inspires me, so I was fascinated to discover crystalline glazes, in which a process normally occurring deep in the earth can be coaxed to take place in a kiln. The striking quality of the crystals demands the simple, elegant forms I create to set them off. The crystals seem to float in their pool of glaze, creating a fourth dimension on the three dimensional surface of the clay.'
