Add Review/CommentArizona native Ginger Bowen finds old and odd objects and paints them hoping to give viewers a different take on the mundane. She uncovers a feeling of nostalgia using unique objects that people sometimes miss the beauty in. She often uses a play-on-words in her titles that can impart an entirely different meaning in the painting and paints them only from life, and life size. She has studied with Daniel Greene, Kevin Macpherson, Matt Smith and Michael Albrechtson. 'I feel I have the best of both worlds. Not only am I able to paint what I see in a studio still life, but I'm able to capture what I see out in the world through my landscapes. I feel so blessed to be able to do something I love so much.' Figurative painter Fred Calleri has been interested in art throughout his life and has been a gifted draftsman since childhood. Calleri uses each piece as a new lesson and creates goals for that work which relates to mood, palette, light or expression. By looking at the way Sargent used his palette or Vermeer's light and use of pattern, Calleri is able to garner a small lesson from both. While exploring the figure and representational painting in general, Calleri found by adding a slight distortion he was free to let the image take him where it wanted to go. By distorting the image the bonds of reality and style become less commanding and the piece develops a style on its own sometime whimsical, sometimes traditionally serene.
