    Thousands of revelers will rejoice downtown on December 31st for First Night 2009. Events occur at Gallivan Plaza, The Gateway, The Leonardo and Temple Square. The festivities, with musical, visual and performing artists, take place from 3:00pm until midnight. From funk to folk, hip-hop to hypnotists, cosmic creations to family fun, there is something for everyone, in a safe, alcohol-free environment. Gallivan Plaza, 6:00pm-midnight: Three stages of entertainment and themed-warming huts guarantee merriment. Enjoy live music, dance performances, spoken word artists, multi-media, free ice skating, theater, art installations and a resolution ritual to light up the night. Welcome 2009 in the heart of the city under a canopy of fireworks with the Wells Fargo fireworks extravaganza! Family Festival at The Gateway, 3:00pm-6:00pm: The Family Festival offers activities at Discovery Gateway, Clark Planetarium, Olympic Legacy Fountain and the Grand Hall. Experience hands-on art projects, storytelling, children's theater and a resolution project for kids. Families with young children can celebrate an early New Year's Eve with a special laser finale at 6:00pm. The Leonardo, 6:00pm-11:30pm: Join The Leonardo's First Night bash for a fun, family-friendly indoor celebration featuring hands-on science, dance, music and more - just one free TRAX stop away from the Gallivan Center. Temple Square, 6:00pm-11:30pm: Enjoy a variety of performances in the Assembly Hall and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. The musical menu offers bluegrass, big band, piano, bagpipers and ethnic melodies.
