The participating arts are Marina Alexandrescu, Jim Frazer, Frank McEntire, Marcee Blackerby, Wayne Kimball and Mark England. According to Worlds in a Box curator, Jacqui Biggs Larsen, 'I chose these six artists for their diversity of expression and the fact that many of them are best known for other forms of art, was intriguing to me'. Wayne Kimball, for instance, is one of Utah's premier printmakers. Mark England is best known for his paintings of futuristic map-like landscapes. Frank McEntire has long made use of society's detritus for his commentaries on religion and the psyche and Marina Alexandrescu usually creates complicated drawings on paper which include human hair and fine stitchery. Jim Frazer is interested in the presence of science and technology in his boxes and mixes the factual with the fictional for his Curiosity Boxes. Marcee Blackerby combs garage sales and eBay for the treasures used in her other-worldish boxes.
