Inherit the Wind is an account of the Scopes 'Monkey Trial,' in which attorney Clarence Darrow faced off against the charismatic fundamentalist orator William Jennings Bryan in a small Tennessee town where a high-school teacher, John Scopes, was brought to trial for teaching Darwinism. The two lawyers engage in memorable scenes evoking an epic battle of values and beliefs, with allusions to the McCathyism of the 1950s. Professor of Biology Jon Seger will comment and lead a discussion after the screening.
