Hank Klibanoff co-authored (with Gene Roberts) The Race Beat: The Press, The Civil Rights Struggle, and the Awakening of a Nation. This book, called 'an extraordinary account of one of the most calamitous periods in our nation's history,' was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for History in 2007. It was also named the Best Media History Book by the American Journalism Historians Association in 2007. Hank Klibanoff will discuss how the media, which first ignored the civil rights movement, ultimately captured the raw images that became part of public memory.
