There's no clocking out early when you're a photographer for National Geographic. Yet the far corners of earth aren't all that different from the conference room or the cubicle: indeed, going the extra mile can, and does, mean the difference between ordinary and extraordinary. Nature doesn't give many second chances - Sartore has been chased by musk oxen, alligators, wolves, and bears - so attitude, teamwork, creativity and a sense of humor, as well as a Midwestern work ethic, are as essential as the camera in capturing unique and extraordinary images. Sartore's images focus on topics such as natural history, endangered species and land use, and have appeared in several national broadcasts and publications around the globe. In 2007, he was the subject of At Close Range, a PBS documentary that delves into the tough and often dangerous work that takes him to exotic locations and leads him to surprises in his own Nebraskan backyard.
