As the conclusion of the 3rd annual SLCC Vocal Jazz Festival, this special pre-Valentine's day concert is sure to set the stage for the most memorable Valentine's Day yet! The concert will feature Darmon Meader, founder, musical director, chief arranger, and vocalist with Grammy award-winning group, New York Voices. Former member of the PM Singers, Michele Weir, will also be featured on the show. Weir is a current UCLA Jazz Faculty member, and a prolific arranger with dozens of published arrangements to her credit. 6 Miles Ahead touts the talents of Utah's leading jazz vocalists and is certain to dazzle the audience with their ensemble performances of traditional and contemporary jazz. Salt City Jazz, the premiere jazz choir at SLCC, will open the night. The program will also feature members of BYU's Faculty Jazz Ensemble 'Q'd Up'- Lars Yorgason, and Jay Lawrence, with Steve Keen, as well as student performers from the day's festival. The artists will present music from a number of popular eras including the works of jazz greats Duke Ellington, Pat Matheny, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Shirley Horn, and more. Sweethearts will swoon to the classics and even the tiniest toes will be tapping at this event that is perfect for the whole family.
