Hooray for Hollywood: A Celebration of Movie Musicals

The Acclamation touring troupe will perform famous songs from movie musicals during their spring jubilation. Acclamation will perform Hooray for Hollywood: A Celebration of Movie Musicals. The Acclamation performers will travel through Hollywood singing and dancing to songs of George and Ida Gershwin, Disney classics and Americana show tunes. This tribute will feature the famous songs, 'Yankee Doodle Dandy', 'God Bless America', 'Singin' in the Rain', 'When You Wish Upon a Star' and 'I Got Rhythm'. The Acclamation singers and dancers will sparkle their way through the magical land of movies entertaining the entire family. The title song, 'Hooray for Hollywood' opens this celebration. This has been a staple of the movie industry since 1937. This musical journey through the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's continues with a 'Yankee Doodle Dandy Medley'. This medley contains classical Americana show tunes such as 'Give My Regards to Broadway' and 'God Bless America'. The dancers, while 'Singin' in the Rain', follow Disney's Pinocchio and Snow White down Hollywood's memory lane. The Acclamation touring troupe consists of students from the Theatre Arts and Dance Department: Payden Adams ('11), Emilie Anderson ('10), Cesar Bojorquez ('11), Kayla Card ('10), Jessica Dansie ('11), Rhett Guter ('09), Trevor Hunt ('11), Matthew Marberry ('12), Jenny Smith ('12) and Katie Wackowski ('09). Throughout the year, this touring group will perform at senior organizations, fundraising events, local schools and on campus. As the newest addition to the College of Performing and Visual Arts, the Acclamation song and dance troupe is the entertainment ambassadors of the College. Founded over a decade ago, as SUU 'Show Choir,' these Acclamation students enrich the lives of the SUU student body, the communities of Southern Utah and beyond through their musical performance.
