Día de los niños/Día de los libros (Day of the Child/Day of the Book) is a day to spread the joy of reading by linking books with children from all languages and cultures. Celebrated in libraries across America, Día seeks to engender in children a love of reading and to promote the importance of literacy. Many Latin American countries traditionally celebrate their children with a national holiday on the last day of April. Día was established in the United States in 1996 by award-winning children's author Pat Mora, and is sponsored annually by REFORMA (an affiliate of the American Library Association) and the Association of Bilingual Education. The City Library will celebrate with a puppet show by Los Calientes and a storytime followed by music and a craft. Each child will be given a book to take home with them.
