The High School Competition was juried by Scott Durrant, a professional artist, past president of Lamplight Art Gallery, and interior designer. Mr. Durrant said, 'Judging any student artwork presents a challenge for the judge. All who make the cut and are accepted into an exhibit such as this show exceptional talent and should receive the highest allocates. In judging this particular show I looked at the use of materials, subject matter, artistic principles, and difficulty involved in the composition. Please enjoy the show and the amazing talent found in our high school community.' Winners of the Junior High Competition are: Best of Show, Alex Kunz, Fairfield Jr. High; 1st Place, Arlinda Kwok, Millcreek Jr. High; 2nd Place, Grant Patterson, Syracuse Jr. High; 3rd Place, Josh Jacobs, Mueller Park Jr. High; Honorable Mention: Myles Peterson, West Point Jr. High. The Junior High School Competition was juried by Theresa Otteson, a professional artist and art educator. Mrs. Otteson said, 'My idea of how to jury this show is that I wanted to see that the artist has an understanding of the mediums and how to use them. I was also looking for something that went beyond just using the colored pencil, watercolors, or ceramics. Something that showed the student took the time to go the extra mile, demonstrating that they know value and composition and added a little extra to make the piece complete.' A companion exhibit will highlight works of art by Davis School District Art Educators. Also on deck this year for the first time, selected works of art from Davis School District Jr. High Students will be on display in the Patrons Gallery at BDAC. Finally, there will be a companion exhibit in the downstairs classroom of BDAC featuring recycled art created from discarded materials by the students of Bountiful Elementary School. This exhibit entitled JArt is coordinated by Sherry Thompson, librarian at the school.
