This door slamming farce is set in 1943 in the living room of the Vicarage at the fictitious village of Merton-cum-Middlewick. The story revolves around Penelope Toop, former actress and now wife of the local vicar, The Reverend Lionel Toop, and the comings and going of the local parishioners. The first to arrive is Miss Skillon, a churchgoer of the parish and the local busybody, arrives on bicycle to gossip with the vicar and to complain about the latest 'outrages' that Penelope has caused. Into this mix add an old friend of Penelope's, Lance-Corporal Clive Winton, who due to a hilarious turn of events ends up pretending to be the visiting vicar Arthur Humphrey who is due to preach the Sunday sermon the next day. Just before they set out, Penelope and Clive, who used to act together back in the day, re-enact one of their scenes from 'Private Lives' and manage to knock Miss Skillon unconscious. Chaos quickly ensues, culminating in a cycle of running figures, most of them dressed as clergy, plus a well-trained dog. The Empress' production features Heidi Colver as Miss Skillon, Brett Howell as the Reverend Lionel Toop, and Nathan Unck as Clive Winton. The Show is directed by Sherry Smith, and is sure to be a hilarious evening of fun for everyone.
