The summer season comes to a close with an evening of singer-songwriters. Headlining show is country-alternative, fan-favorite Robert Earl Keen. Keens humorous songwriting lends itself to both rollicking fun and storytelling tunes. The Texas-bred musician has penned hits that have made their way onto Lyle Lovett and Nanci Griffith albums. Lending his own voice to The Road Goes on Forever and Farm Fresh Onions has earned him die-hard followers. Sharing the singer-songwriter bill with Keen are Jill Sobule and John Doe. Founding member of the Los Angeles punk band X, John Doe launched his solo career, departing from punk in the 90's. His rootsy, country-rock direction led to several acclaimed albums, including Meet John Doe, Dim Stars, Bright Sky and Forever Hasn't Happened Yet. A bass player, actor and poet, John Does most recent endeavor is a new album with Canadian indie group, The Sadies. With a decidedly contrasting style to the gentlemen singer-songwriters, Sobule launched to the top of the charts in the 90's with the hit 'I Kissed a Girl' (which was followed by another tongue-and-cheek tune, 'Supermodel'). The New York Times describes her music as topical, funny and more than a little poignant.
