The Weber State University Department of Performing Arts presents a benefit concert by Nicholas Maughan, in the Garrison Choral Room (BC136). The performance is presented to raise funds for Maughan's participation in the Greek Lakes Chamber Music Festival in Green Lake, Wisconsin. Nicholas Maughan began his piano studies with his mother when he was five years old. Now a scholarship student in the Piano Performance program at Weber State University in Ogden, he currently studies with Dr. Ralph van der Beek. Previous teachers have included Gary Amano, Annette Colledge, and Dennis Hirst. Performing frequently in northern Utah as a solo and collaborative pianist, Maughan has also been successful in competitions, most recently at the 2008-2009 Music Teachers National Association Southwest Division Chamber Music Competition, where he and his trio partners Kathryn Palkki (violin) and Samuel Runolfson (cello) represented the state of Utah, taking second place. Additionally, Maughan was selected as one of five finalists in the Talent of the Year category at WSU's Crystal Crest Awards in 2008. He has worked in master classes and festivals with teachers including Vadim Serebryany, Regina Yeh, Veda Zuponcic, Marina Horak, Nelita True and the Amelia Piano Trio's Rieko Aiza. Program Schedule Sonatas for Keyboard - Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) Two Barcarolles - Ned Rorem (b. 1923) Polonaise-Fantaisie - Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) Etudes-Tableaux, Op. 33 - Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943) Corelli Variations, Op. 42 - Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943) Prelude in D-flat Major - Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943)
