They've been called, 'children of courage... gentle warriors.' They are young refugees living in Utah. Like countless other refugees throughout the world, they and their families left their countries of origin to escape political upheaval and persecution based on race, religion, nationality, or political opinion. Some come from countries torn by war. They come to America seeking asylum and a better life. They ask not for sympathy, but for compassion, acceptance, understanding, and most importantly, friendship. As part of the World Refugee Day celebrations KUED, the SLC Film Center, the Center for Documentary Arts (CDA), the Refugee Services Office, Department of Workforce Services, and the Salt Lake City Main Public Library present a half-hour documentary and panel discussion based upon the CDA project of Faces and Voices of Refugee Youth. Along with the screening and discussion, the exhibit, Faces and Voices of Refugee Youth, photos by Kent Miles, will be on display in the Library's Lower Urban Room, from June 15-July 27.
