The Salt Lake Art Center, in partnership with the SLC Film Center and the Utah Humanities Council, will host a screening of works by the artists selected for Utah X/I, an investigation of contemporary video art being created in Utah. Originally curated by Anne Watson for SLC Film Center's Sidewalk Cinema, the Art Center's presentation includes works by four video artist: Brian Paterson, Peter Stempel, Amy Caron and Kerri Hopkins. The exhibition also includes taped interviews about the works with Jeff Lambson, Curator of Contemporary Art, Brigham Young University, Museum of Art and Jill Dawsey, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Utah Museum of Fine Arts. Utah X/I will be presented in the Salt Lake Art Center's auditorium as part of its recent series, Contemporary Trends in Video Art. Inspired by Docudrama X, an international art exhibition that takes place every five years in Germany, Utah X/I stretches beyond the conventional idea of exhibition space. The videos were originally viewed this past spring from the sidewalk and Trax station platforms on the SLC Film Center's Sidewalk Cinema venue. Video presentations at the Art Center will run daily on the hour from 11:00am-5:00pm from June 20-July 19. Utah X/I is made possible with generous support from the Utah Humanities Council and the 337 Project.
