Legendary choreographer Michio Ito (1893-1961) created a synthesis of Japanese Noh and Kabuki, characteristic gestures drawn from Eastern and Western cultures that left a footprint in American Modern Dance. A new work by Andrea Miller adds contrast with movement that erupts from physicality and the subconscious, energy that seizes your attention with fierce aggression and raw beauty. 'How did such a young choreographer, so new on the scene, discover such a strongly individual voice and ability to captivate and surprise with such sophisticated, persuasive power?' (New York Press) Norwegian choreographer, Jo Stromgren, is influenced by French existentialism, dark winters and lonely fjords but his work, Kraak, offers a certain lightness and absurdity along with explosive dynamic energy.
