Visual and literary creative energy inspired by Utah's lovely red rock river valley is the cornerstone of the 5th Annual Bluff Arts Festival. This year's theme, 'The River' features new events such as the 'Ecology, Geology and a Gold Mine' lecture hike; a public art participation/installation called 'The River's Gift'; and a plein air painting workshop, all which will take place beside the San Juan River. Bluff Arts Festival has gained a reputation for high quality, eclectic programming reflecting the creative and independent attitude of Bluff and its surrounding communities. Each year the Bluff Arts and Education Foundation present perennial favorites such as Poetry, Prose and Potluck evening featuring Utah and national treasures such as Katharine Coles, Orlando White, Win Blevins, Sherwin Bitsui and Terry Tempest Williams alongside colorful, local, up-and-coming talent. Another annual favorite is the Walking Art Tour and accompanying Arts Fair which encompasses the entire town of Bluff, providing interesting venues for local and regional visual artists to present their creations. On Friday evening, the Foundation is thrilled to bring you 'Everett Ruess - Final Desert Trail', a panel forum discussing the fascinating and confounding discovery of Ruess' remains just south of Bluff. Renowned author, David Roberts; discoverer of Ruess', local Navajo artist and contractor, Denny Bellison; Navajo Nation archaeologist, Ron Maldonado; and internationally acclaimed guide, Vaughn Hadenfeldt will present the facts and lore of this southwestern mystery for the first time in the Four Corners region.
