October 7 ? Trees Tell Time Did you know that trees are some of nature¹s best timekeepers? Take a short hike with a teacher naturalist and practice your leaf peeping skills as you discover how and why leaves change color. Then create your own stained-glass craft using real leaves. October 14 ? Explorers How did Columbus sail across an ocean? How did early explorers find their way across the wilderness? Learn how explorers of the past and the present use a compass and a map to reach their destination. Test your new skills as you hit the trails for a scavenger hunt around the Nature Center. October 21 ? Scaley Tales Have you ever wondered what a snake feels like? What about a tortoise shell? Come find out and get an up close look at the Ogden Nature Center's resident reptiles. Learn what makes reptiles so special in the animal world while meeting Laser and Rex, two threatened Desert Tortoises, and Bert, the Great Basin Gopher Snake. October 28 ? Creepy, Crawly and Costumes Come dressed as your favorite wild thing (anything in nature will do) and meet our resident creepy and crawly animals. Learn why snakes hiss and how tarantulas move. Then test your nerve and sample some the most ooey-gooey, grimey-slimey foods that our teacher naturalists can create.
